A small island country, the Republic of Cyprus is a meeting point for Europe, Asia and Africa with a rich culture and history. Legend says that the Greek goddess of love–Aphrodite–was born in Cyprus! There are 140 species of plants found nowhere except the island, as well as its own sheep breed named the Cyprus Muffon. The oldest pet remains were found here (a cat buried 9500 years ago). Did you know that the Cypriot economist Christopher Pissarides was awarded the Nobel prize in Economics? Pay attention when crossing the road here: Cyprus is one of the 4 European countries that drives on the left!
